Who we are
New Yorkers for Verified Voting’s mission is to ensure that all eligible citizens can vote, and that their votes will be accurately counted. We have organized as a group to achieve this goal through advocacy and education. Our organization is more than the sum of its parts. While each of us alone may powerfully express our shared concerns, expressing our concerns together, we are more powerful.
From 2003 to 2008, New Yorkers for Verified Voting’s primary focus was preventing the real danger of New York adopting a direct recording electronic voting system – a system that has proved to be impossible to verify and inaccurate. We dedicated our efforts to influencing New York to choose a voting system based on voter-marked paper ballots. This goal was achieved when the paper ballot-scanner voting system was chosen by most New York counties in 2008 and ballot markers were chosen in the other counties as an interim provision for accessibility
We advocated for the paper ballot-ballot marker-scanner system because with rigorous procedures and citizen oversight it is effective in ensuring both access and accuracy. But the fact that this system was chosen does not mean our work is done.
Now our focus is on encouraging citizen oversight of the implementation of a system based on voter-marked paper ballots to ensure the accurate recording and counting of our votes.
We also aim to coordinate with the efforts of other good government groups that share our concern for election integrity. We stand ready to oppose and critique any voting systems, procedures, or policies that could violate a citizen’s right to vote. In doing so, our focus is on positive action toward present and future election integrity.

NYVV Financial Disclaimer
NYVV has absolutely no financial or other vested interest in any voting equipment manufacturer, vendor, or their representatives. Our officers and Board of Directors own no stock, receive no salary or commissions, and accept no contributions, gifts, trips, or favors from any voting machine vendor or lobbying firms they have hired, regardless of what type of equipment they manufacture or promote.
Our interest in this issue has solely to do with our concern for transparent, accurate, and verifiable elections. As citizens of New York State, we share the concerns about DREs with many computer professionals and others around the United States. We believe that optical scanners are a better choice because they are a more reliable, accurate, auditable and cost effective voting system.
Our involvement in this advocacy work comes from our belief that in a democracy, citizens must speak up and take an active role.
