Margaret Yonco-Haines (B.A. Wellesley College 1973, J.D. NYU School of Law 1976, LL.M. (Taxation) NYU School of Law 1977); community activist and organizer.
Margaret has worked as a tax attorney for 29 years, most recently as VP and Senior Domestic Tax Counsel at a pharmaceutical company, from which she retired in 2006. Since 2003, she has been the organizer and leader of Philipstown for Democracy, a community group dedicated to increasing involvement by the local community in the political process and social change.
She also organized in 2005, and continues to lead Take19 (now known as Keep19), a group formed to increase awareness by voters in NY’s 19th Congressional District of their representation in Congress. She recently helped form, and leads TakeNY - a group dedicated to bringing necessary reforms to New York State government, primarily through the elective process.
She became involved in the issue of how we vote in New York State when New York City activist Teresa Hommel addressed Philipstown for Democracy in February 2005 and has been active ever since. She has been part of NYVV since March 2006. She is also Executive Director of MidHudson Verified Voting.
Margaret was born and grew up in a Chicago suburb, and currently lives in Garrison, NY.
